400 Days of Surrender — Day 31: Life can be so much more

New to this series? You can find Day 1 and why I’m writing this here.

This morning, I found myself listening to the instructor of the Vortex Healing course I’m taking when my thoughts drifted away.

Where am I going to go next, what am I going to do, was this a good idea, what is going to happen to my life, bla bla bla.

It was my mind in its primary function of worrying about my “survival.” And then I remembered that there’s absolutely nothing to worry about and that leaving the comfort of my London home opens up this beautiful realm of possibilities that I can’t possible grasp yet because I have no idea what’s around the corner.

It was a moment of reminding myself of the beauty to surrender. The moment I did, I felt at ease even excited of all the good stuff that will come out of this. And it also reminded me of the price we pay when we keep doing mental loops of not knowing what to do, i.e. when we know something needs to change — a career, a relationship, our health,… — but the mind and our thinking keep holding us back from making that change: What if I can’t live without her, where am I going to go, what am I going to do, maybe there is no better job, maybe I can’t change my diet or do anything about my health issue, it’s genetic, bla bla bla.

We continuously build our own prison in our mind limiting our experience called life. It’s like staying in the comfort of the house you’ve built because it’s safe and, well, comfortable but thereby missing out on all the things that are happening outside of it, nature, people, adventures, you name it.

I love this quote from Steve Jobs who gave at a CBS interview after having been kicked out of Apple:

“When you grow up you tend to get told that the world is the way it is and your life is just to live your life inside the world. Try not to bash into the walls too much. Try to have a nice family life, have fun, save a little money. That’s a very limited life. Life can be much broader once you discover one simple fact: Everything around you that you call life was made up by people that were no smarter than you. And you can change it, you can influence it… Once you learn that, you’ll never be the same again.”

Think about the most successful people, the people that redefined industries, created amazing pieces of art and music. Do you think they stopped when someone told them that’s too crazy, that’s too audacious, that can’t be done?

Of course, there’s no guarantee that it will work out but do you really want to die not having tried to live the best life possible, your true life? What satisfaction can you buy from having lived a safe, comfortable life instead of an exciting, passionate, beautiful, enriching life full of love for what you do, with whom and where? If you want some inspiration, check out dreamerdocumentary.com (should soon be available on Netflix).

And it doesn’t matter whether you fail because how much fun did you have trying something you love vs. doing something you don’t like? So go out and make your dreams come true! Because what do you really have to loose? And how incredibly much have you got to win?! Ad astra ✨
